Schooling to Operate an MRI Machine

MRI technicians are in high demand in imaging centers, hospitals, and clinics nationwide. This demand is expected to only increase as the population grows and ages. However, many people considering a career in medical imaging may opt for x-ray instead, due to the schooling requirements. To be certified to operate an MRI machine, a bachelor’s degree is required. By contrast, x-ray technicians are certified with an associate’s degree. To minimize the cost of a four-year education, many students will complete the preliminary coursework at a local community college and then transfer to a state college to complete the additional two years needed for the degree. MRI technicians make approximately double what an x-ray tech can hope to make, so the extra schooling is worthwhile monetarily. More info: MRI Machine
